Selected from the Waterbury Button Company archives as part of the America 250 Collection, a limited edition set celebrating 250 years of American history, handcrafted in Connecticut.
The Liberty Bell was hung in the Pennsylvania State House in 1753 and rang on July 8, 1776 to call Philadelphia's citizens to the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. It bears the inscription "Proclaim LIBERTY Throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants thereof", a passage from Leviticus chosen decades before independence was ever imagined. The crack is part of its history.
