The Bennington Flag is one of the oldest American flags in existence. Flown at the Battle of Bennington in August 1777, it features 13 stars, a bold "76" at its center, and a design unlike any flag that came before or after it. The battle itself was a turning point, a decisive American victory in the Saratoga campaign that helped convince France to formally enter the war on the side of the colonies. Without Bennington, the alliance that won the Revolution might never have happened.
